Need a bit of help .. hoping I can get the following measurement(s).
Need the measurement from the bottom or top of the stock front bumper to the ground/floor on a vehicle CJ using standard size jeep tires and wheels. Also need the measurement (Center of the bumper) of the face (Front) of the bumper back to the face (Front) of the round cross frame member the 1st one that sits in the frame. I want to ensure that I have my new horns exactly where they need to sit before welding them into place. Diagrams that I've seen are not very clear, and I prefer to be more exact than just a ballpark figure. My original horns were gone and the bumper and welded on iron that I removed from a measurement standpoint were worthless. Installing the new horns, gussets, bumper etc as a single assembled unit onto the frame. Mark |

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Not exactly the measurements you asked for but the information you need for locating your frame horns can be obtained from this drawing. The hole with the 13-7/16" dimension is the hole that is center of the cross tube. |

Measuring to the floor would be worthless as springs will all be different. Even what would be considered a stock tire will be variable. A stock tire for a 15" wheel is different then a stock tire for a 16" wheel and one brand tire will be slightly different then another brand. Your best off to run with the drawing jpet posted.

Thanks all. Realized after I posted that there were some diagrams that I found on the Internet than made some sense of it all. I also realize that these seems to be a bit of the wild west consistency with frame repair, bumper fixes, rivets, spacers, gussets, etc etc etc. All in the eye of the beholder I guess and I can totally do that. Been doing a lot of reading of old posts and builds on this site and it's been most educational . So are all the pics on the web of let's say CJ2A jeep bumper's. Or MB or GPW bumpers. HALFTRACK's are much simpler!

Thank You!! Once I had that post from Jpet, the layout went right together. The pics in the manual mentioned in one post would be adequate to straighten the frame, but as a reference for anything else, like this type of project, they are more than a bit short of helpful.
Jpet, read through the Bam Bam build with great interest. Thank you for all the posts and pics! Lots of great information and discussion. Well Done. Appreciate all the advice and input from everyone. Makes doing any challenging task like this so much easier. Like having a team in the shop with you!!

When measuring the distance from the stock front bumper to the ground/floor, consider using a spirit level to ensure the ruler or measuring tape is perfectly vertical. This can help eliminate any potential errors.

This thread is from five years ago, but your pursuit of precise measurements for your CJ project is still relevant and admirable. Even though the original post is aged, your inquiry can potentially benefit others who come across similar challenges.
In your quest for accuracy, using an online ruler tool like https://ruler.onl/ is an excellent choice. It can assist you in obtaining the exact measurements you need, which is crucial when working on a project like this. If you encounter any difficulties or have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Edited by tin3rete - 30 Nov. 2023 at 6:43am |
