My 46 cj 2a has a front brake problem.  When I put it in reverse the drivers side front brake locks up???   When I put it in first gear it releases.  I was told I must have a broken top or bottom brake spring.
I pulled the drum today and both springs are OK.  What else could cause this??

I can just offer an opinion.
The only times I have ever had the brakes hang up was when a brake shoe system was contaminated The brake fluid or grease from the axle got things to be a bit sticky.

A photo of the brakes might help folks to troubleshoot the problem.

Something anchoring the brake shoes is not right or it wouldn't do this. I agree with Rocketeer that we need to see a photo if we are going to diagnose the problem.
