So I'm still a huge amount of work and about $1500 away from being on the road. But one gets to dreaming. In talking to the wife I asked her where she would like to go once I get the Jeep, the hard top and the little travel trailer I will be building for it done.
She said: Yellowstone, Yosemite, The Grand Canyon, I have a few of my own being from Silverton Oregon I want o visit Silverton Washington, Silverton, Colorado, Silverton, Idaho. I want to take my Jeep to as close to all four corners of Oregon as Physically possible. Bodie CA. 3-4 of the Ghost towns in NE Oregon and I would like to see how far North in British Columbia we could get And I really want to get to Death Valley CA. So that's our plans for now. You all got any? |

Well thats just a hop skip and jump from home. But that will like the rest have to come once its on the road. With my work schedule Memorial weekend is just to valuable as shop time to pass up. Saturday is supposed to be a decent day I have a BUNCH of small part painting I need to do. So I am quite sure we will be paving somewhere at least 3/4 of the day.

My goal is to someday have a motorhome, enclosed trailer and go to some of the rallies across the US and Astoria of coarse. I have wanted to go to the FCT now for years but never been able to and that is why I started doing the Oregon thing here. Someday soon.

There is a Silverton in British Columbia too. It's in the Slocan valley about 40 or 50 miles north of Castlegar!

A motorhome can be a major investment. I use mine about 3 months of the year. The insurance agents, they get cranky and my response is "screw you and write up a new policy. It's your job".
I've driven mine across the country, the 11 MPG sort of sucked but what are you going to do anyway when you are towing a motorcycle trailer or a Jeep? |

I have no intention of towing my Jeep anywhere. I'm building it to drive.
If you look at my build I have basically a Early CJ-5 with a Late (as in 59) Flat head making more HP then the stock 134F would running into the same Drive train (except the Dana 25 in front) as a 1971 CJ-5 And everything is NEW So the way I look at this vehicle is with proper maintenance it should have at least equal to 100K of road miles on the engine, 60K on the Clutch, 100K in the Tranny and transfer case (rebuilt with new gears), 200K on the rear axle (1971 Dana 44 30 spline Flanged with all new parts) The brakes of a late 60's Wagoneer (we got almost 250K out of our 65 wagoneer) I'm going to be 60 before its on the road and if I drive it 7K a year thats more then 10 years before a clutch and 14 before an engine. I drive a Dump truck 8-10 hours a day now the Jeep will have a much better ride about the only advantage the Dump truck has is AC and I can live without that My pickup doesn't have it. I'm going to drive the crap out of this thing when i get it done. |

Hooyah Master Chief! I'd love to hit a bunch of the Jeep get-togethers. FCT and Spring Fling have been on my radar since I got this tub, and I'd absolutely LOVE to take the 2A and our '54 Geryhound up the Trans-Canada highway and tour Alaska. The Jeep has a bit of work yet to be done to do something like that, and the bus - whew!- the bus is a shell. Building it out is probably going to run $10k. Which I don't have, of course.

Yea!!! None of mine have ever been on a trailer either and that isn't likely going to change. And hopefully you will have some success with the engine build. No doubt one can pull some big horsepower out of a 134 of either stripe if you want to spend enough money. Not too big a deal these days to get custom cranks, rods, and pistons. But I remain extremely skeptical of the stock rods taking much abuse and I don't believe I have ever got more than about 75k out of a rebuild before starting to loose compression and oil consumption issues. I attribute that to the 4 3/8's stroke and the resulting high piston speed/acceleration in a block with little alloy. The rings flat don't appreciate it.
