I have gone though a lot of discussions but haven’t seen many people swapping chassis’s. I just acquired a 48’ cj2a. Frame is pretty shot, no drivetrain, nothing but body with a rusted out pan.. I wanted to see some thoughts on buying a cheap donor like a 4x4 s10 use the frame, transfer case ect off it. Making the ride safer at high speeds and safer ride and of course cheaper and easier to find. Anyone have suggestions what would be a close match or have seen something similar?

Suzuki Samari.
But just a warning.....the majority here aren't really gonna care to go down that road with you I'm afraid. Maybe search for a little better project? Doesn't sound like you have much of a start. |

IMHO its as much work to swap a chassis as it would be to just find a good frame and build the Jeep as it should be. You can upgrade brakes and steering and have it plenty safe on the road. Even on a S-10 chassis your still going to be stuck with a narrow 80" wheel base.

Open up your search to include CJ-3A and CJ-3B frames. These are heavier duty when compared to a 2A frame and would require very little modification.

Like others have said Suzuki Samurai, a Geo/Chevy Tracker ( Or the Suzuki Sidekick), Seen Toyota pickup frames/ running gear, CJ3A, 3B, CJ5...
What is the final goal for this project? A fun street cruiser? A off road monster? Something that looks stock but more modernized? |

If the goal is to have a flat fender, then build a flat fender. If you want an S10 or Toyota with a old Willys grill just attach the grill. People do that all the time - rail buggy / rock crawler with a Willys grill. Some people buy a entire Philippians body and put lots of effort into making it as stock looking as possible on the outside and as capable as can be under the sheet metal. Just depends on what you really want. If you are going to build a monster jeep consider something with a longer wheel base. No totally wrong answer just know what you want when you start. Think about who and what type of groups you might be going to wheel with. A groups of mudders are going to want something reliable and capable. A group of old school enthusiast are not really going to want to see the Toyota with Willys grill that cant match the speed they are traveling.
