I purchased a m 38 tailgate,with jerry can and holder, but no spare tire mount. could someone post a pic of one ? I dont have a clue what it looks like, the holes are different than a cj 2a bracket. Thanks

Randy if you look on Walks site they have a pic of the M-38 spare mount.
The mount actually an "add on" piece that utilizes the 2A mount. I made one a couple years ago here is a pic. |

Thank keeps the tire and wheel from shaking when you're on a rough road. The tire should press against it and it dampens the vibration for the whole mount.

Also, the civiy part or top of the rear mount assembly can be removed and bolted to side of M38. On your M38, if you look very close at the area where the side mount is attached you will find four small indents for the drilling of the holes to mount on side. I remember training on the M38 and this was identified to the students. You do not have to remove bottom part of rear mount to relocate mount to the side, just have the side holes available for the transfer of the top or side mount unit. All of the M38's in my unit had the side holes already drilled for speedy relocation of spare.This allowed us to lower tailgate and have spare with vehicle. The M38 was very well though out, a real After Action Vehicle.
