I have access to a beautiful m38 frame and I am wondering if I can use it under my cj2a, and if so what modifications or tweaks  would I have to make to make it work?

M38 has an excellent frame.
You will need to source a different front engine plate  because the left motor mount is different. (I happen to have one)
Also the spring pivots use 7/16" bolts and not grease-able pivot pins.
You could ream out the pivot brackets to accept 9/16" standard pivot pins.
Shackle mounts for leaf springs are the same...

That's about it for the must do list in order to fit it to an otherwise standard 2A.
That said there are several other notable differences.

Like not having rear license tag holes on rear crossmember,.
Draw bar mounting verses  pintle plate.
Addition of frame lift lugs
Rear axle bumper stiffners
Front Tow hooks

You will also have to modify the front grille mounting of the M38 to the brackets that bolt on to the frame for the 2A. There is a difference in the transmission crossmember that won't have a place for the clutch return spring to hook on to. This is a minor detail and easy to fix.

99,999 people out of 100,000 wouldn't know the difference between a M38 frame and a CJ-2A frame. In my estimation the M38 frame is a definite upgrade over the CJ-2A frame and that is what is under the body of Ol' Red.

I'm building a 2a on an M38 frame and I'm using the grill because I like the way it hinges down. Basically I'm using the best parts that I have regardless of where they came from. So far I haven't had any problems yet but I just started. I have an M38 title and tags so that's what it will be registered as.

Yeah, I just fabbed up a pair of custom shaped angle irons for mounting a civilian grill.
Best feature of the M38 frame are the front horn gussets
Plus the M38 horn gussets are tapped to accept a winch cradle.

That said I actually prefer the 3A and the early 3B frames as best for a flatty build
