Keep the good solutions coming. There seems to be more options out there than I thought there would be.

Great thread.
Working on Cj2A with Ramsey pto winch.
Stock steering completely worn out.
Also wanted to make it easier to steer for my wife as it’s our main farm Jeep.
I like the Toyota box, does anyone know the ratio for the manual box?
Thanks

From what I can gather it’s 19:1 or 4.75 turns lock to lock. I read somewhere that guys with 1948 to 1960 ford trucks use these boxes in their swaps so in a small Willy’s I think would be OK. I myself would rather have a 24:1 box but will settle for the Toyota box.

Thanks for the info.
This is what I was worried about..... Got off the couch to look, sure enough tire hits the frame right there already so no way a box fits. Ouch
I want he easiest steering box possible.
So I guess Saginaw it is.

It's an interesting problem. I have been out there with a tape measure and I'm about 1/2" off for the Koenig winch and a Saginaw box. I have crawled under and things are fairly tight down there.

I've owned Volvos for years and wondered about parts from them to use on a Jeep.
My old 164 had basically a D44 axle with disk brakes. Wrong ratio however. I have seen a few threads with Volvo parts showing under the hood. A person has to wonder.

I used a Chevelle manual box. It’s six turns lock to lock.

If you can't get there in a Jeep, get a motorcycle!

Chevelles, Camaro, Impalas, etc all make cheap donor vehicles.

You may have to look a little harder for the manuals ( or you may not according to your area)

Different Jeep vehicles used them also so don't rule those out.

eBay has a whole page of new ones starting around $190 bucks. You might also try searching with the wrong spelling for Saginaw. I did and found a NOS GM 525 box for $40.

Here is a home-made Saginaw 525 mount that the PPO did.  Mounted low with the shackle notched to clear the mount.  Clears the old Warn winch. It hasn't ripped off yet so it works. Steering shaft passes through the motor mount.  I am embarrassed to admit how old that dirt is...
