here is a pic of the original master cylinder, that has been removed from 195769 ('48), to the best of my knowledge, this is/was the original.

Low:

As with everything else we're trying to dissect, this may not be original, but a service replacement.

6086 is a NAPA/United part number.

AFAIK, the originals were Wagner/Lockheed #4564

Nooo, let's leave it here!  It may prompt further discussion.  If anyone else finds a 6086 they think is original, we may have to adjust our thinking.  It wouldn't be the first time. Smile

interesting stuff.  since this pertains to brakes, when i pulled my wheel cylinders, a couple are stamped wagner/lockheed.  up until now, i thought that was odd.  does the new wagner product still have that stamp on it?

Low,
That is a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. Some of the J-trucks used one similar to that, so did a lot of other light trucks.

The #’s cast into the cylinders are not (usually) the actual part #.
These are casting numbers, several different cylinders may use the same casting, but may have different bore sizes & or port types. There are reference catalogs that give all of the info needed to decipher this.
I can scan & post if anyone is interested. I have a complete library of vintage auto part catalogs going back to the teens.
1947 CJ2A #88659 "Rat Patrol"
1953 CJ3A #453-GB1 11266 "Black Beauty"
1964 Thunderbird convertible
..... & one of them moves under it's own power!!
