Well that is why I hope we can get it on the back range before FCT to see how it handles altitude (fuel/overheating). I'll try to get a temp gauge in it this weekend.
Quote ... You say the tires show a little dry rot?  Maybe we should put some new NDT shoes on it all the way around.  I wonder if it's running well enough that I could drive it home from the Black Hills???
I'll post up some pics of the tires this evening. ..... Driving it from Whitewood to BV? ..... hmmmm.  We can shake it down at BHR and you can decide.

It spent the first day on the lift getting evaluated.  John and I pulled hubs and drums and the carb and fuel pump and replaced the motor mounts.  Made a shopping list for parts and went online to buy the pieces we need to put Sam's jeep back together in good condition.  I want it to be a reliable Jeep for folks to use here in our area.

Mike -  I forgot to send the replacement parts for the two shackles with broken caps.

Should I send them or did you already source them?

Did Jpet get tubes for the tires?

When you get to the Tcase, please pull the rear cover and confirm 26 tooth vs 29 for the future overdrive.

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts and well wishes.  Sam was a large contributor to our community, and a good friend and rascal to many who knew him well.  We are honored to keep his memory alive in this way.

Keith, I did not do anything with shackles yet.  If you have a pair, and a pair needs to be replaced, send them on.  And I'll get a count in the next day or so for the overdrive.  You realize of course that we are going to make Sam very jealous by the way we're fixing up his jeep.  I think it's got the bones to be a rock-solid mountain jeep, and a pretty one too.  I don't have any tubes for the new tires, unless the old tires had tubes.  Thought we'd just reuse the old tubes.  I'll have my tire guy check the old tubes to make sure they are still good.  I'll replace any that are cracking.  We'll have tubes in each tire so we don't have to worry about the beads leaking when running low air pressure.

On second thought, I'll get new tubes for the new tires. I may put the old tires on Barney while I get it worked on.  Sam's old NDCC's are far better than the junk on the rims of Barney, even with the dry rot cracking.

I ordered some new studs to replace the broken one on the right rear hub, but I forgot to order some lug nuts to go with the new studs.  Oh well.  I'll replace all 4 spindle nuts up front.  They were butchered by the last guy to tighten them with a chisel.  I've got a socket to tighten them.  I've also got a cowl seal coming, and a new tail pipe.  The exhaust ends after the muffler.  Piece by piece it's coming together.
