New member, longtime Jeeper.  I've had a Jeep since I was a teenager, and for just as long my dream has been a 40anything Willys.  This past weekend my wife bought me a 1948 CJ2A.  It is, for a 70 year old, in amazing shape with very little rust.  It's been sitting for in a shop for 10+ years.  Other than getting it running I have no real plans yet, just a ton of research and learning.  Let me say thanks in advance to the creators and members of this page, I know it will prove invaluable!

Awesome, congrats and welcome!  IMHO, your plan is the right way to go.  Get it running, stopping and enjoy it.
1948 CJ2A - It goes nowhere fast, but anywhere slow.

Hello gemandsdm,
Welcome to the 2A Page.  Nice looking Willys.  Congratulations.

Can you take a photo of the dash area and measure the top of the rear wheel house...front to back?

I'm seeing a CJ3A driver seat frame.  This won't normally fit in a 2A.

Thanks for showing us!

Here's the only pic of the dash I have right now, I'll get a measurement.

Thanks for the photos!  Now I see an M38 driver seat frame.  Still shouldn't fit right.  I perplexed.Shocked

Can't believe how good the floors look.  Does it look like they've been replaced?

I'm sure the seats have been replaced, they look too new. Gas tank is new.

As far as the floor pans, or any other body work, I don't know enough to know.  The compartment under the passenger seat is original because it has "Jeep" stamped in it.

The guy I got it from had it in his shop for 10 years, he bought it outside Twin Falls, Idaho, high desert no humidity.

I need to go through it to see if I can find any other identifiers.

FWIW, the SN number and Body tag number don't jive...

(1?)94019 vs. 192906

This site's data table seems to indicate that is common by 1948.

The Serial # matches the VIN, the Body Tag can be off quite a bit.

Wow, great looking Jeep. Welcome to the page.

Your floor boards look good, and I think I can see a pretty good weld seam where the floor section meets the section where your feet rest. That would likely mean the floor boards have been replaced.

More pics.
Looking at the welds it looks like the floor has been added to.

However, underneath doesn't really show evidence so I dunno...

Here is the rear wheel house.

Better view of the dash.

Front seat.

Head.

And I now suspect it was originally blue...

I'll be the first to say to you that real jeeps don't have carpet and A/C so that leaves out the two in your driveway.  Wow will she buy you the next one too?

Just kidding and welcome to the mix!

Nice! I see you’re from AR, where? I’m in LR. We’ll need to get together, I’ve got a needle also. 9800 original miles on mine, and no rust. Welcome.

Welcome to the page, gemandsdm!  Someone did some work on your floors in the past.  Whoever it was was probably also the one who put in the M-38 driver's seat frame.  The wheelhouse length is definitely 2A.  I would advise making sure the steering and brakes work before making the engine run.  It does no good to go if you can't steer and stop.
There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable
