this isnt about a 2a but i need to know something....i just bought an 87 wrangler from a guy in phoenix....well we decided to meet in gila bend so i can pick the jeep up. on the way out from phoenix he grenaded the transfer case, and twisted the front drive shaft. would this problem affect the front axle? it poped into gear while in tow. now the jeep wont start and i dont know what transmission is there, its a 5 speed. i need to know if its an AX 15, or an AX 4/5, or a BA 10/5. how can i tell? sweet jeep though, its been i 4wd magazine 3 times (just pics) detroit locker rear, lock rite air locker front, dana 44s, 93 4.2 straight 6 with fuel injection...i plan on geting an atlas 2 transfer case |

The BA trans case halves are split lengthwise down the middle of the trans. It is a piece of crap. The AX5 and AX15 case's are 3 piece. With a front and rear section(both aluminum), with a center section that is around an inch thick. The difference between the AX5 and 15 is the center section is cast iron on the AX5 and Aluminum on the AX15.
Hope this helps.
