Excellent job on floor repair, to me the hard part is not only cutting the pieces to fit but maintaining the tight gap you have....makes welding a breeze! I paid 180$ for a flat floor piece and hat channel, then I see on E-bay someone selling rear floor sec.(with ribs) for same price. Was checking on prices this spring cheapest I could find was about 480$. Do you plan on fab. your own rear floor? or did you go with a repop? Thanks Joe wadoyado

Thanks Joe, Jason used a machine press roller to make the rear floor and added some extra channel supports under. Like you, he's a welder by trade and a great partner on this project.

Just a quick update on Briar Rabbit, Jason finished fabricating the rear panel, floor and tailgate frame and we were planning to install them all last week. It ended up taking us hours to get the rear floor completely straight and centered on an almost non-existent body. Hopefully the rear corners will be installed tomorrow and we can then install the tailgate frame. Seventeen months of this one day a week rebuild and we're still having fun, learning alot and most importantly still talking to each other. Let the adventure continue...

We finally got both rear corners tacked in and began on the wheelhouses. The entire back end will be new. Nothing bought, all fabricated. This week we took the original toolbox minus the sides which were rotten, and made new sides and flanges and trimmed it to fit. We just had to see what the seats looked like with all the new metal. We still need to cut the drivers frame to move it back three inches.

Well its been awhile since we've update Briar Rabbits build thread. Those of you that remember what we stated with, can appreciate what went into getting the body back to one piece. We estimate that 75-80% of the body is new metal. We're waiting to grind the welds until we have a timeframe for painting. We've been fitting all new and rebuilt parts to ensure they still fit and drill holes accordingly. Installed our new dual master cylinder to drill holes prior to painting. Fit our steering column to gauge how tight the fit is around the master cylinder. Everything that needed rebuilding is done. All parts are primed and painted and we're on our way to re-assembly. We're still having a lot of fun..........

While installing the new bow pockets we couldn't resist putting on our new Jpet canvas top. Couldn't be happier with the look and fit. Man, he makes a quality product!! The canvas smell brought me back to my Marine Corps days.

Hey Dana, Looks like Briar Rabbit is taking shape due to your & Jason's efforts. It always takes longer than we would like but hang in there Sir. I remember when he was still in the Briar Patch You have come quite a way from that for sure. You are so right about Jpet's tops. He is a true craftsman to say the least. I need to get on his list this winter for a new half cab for my Luzon Red 1948 CJ2A "Elmer". He crafted a black Sunbrella half cab for me several years ago and it is very nice but "Oh that canvas smell" cannot be duplicated! |

Hey CJ2A-CT. What gauge metal are you using? How did you make the lips on the inside of the curved part of the wheel wheels?
Thanks, Sparky

CJ2A-CT: Thanks for sharing your extensive bodywork on Briar Rabbit! What gauge sheet are you using for the rear quarters, wheelhouses, and floor? Your fans are curious...
