Gary,

For a CJ2A they appear perfect, but the bolt orientation is horizonal, not vertical for the 2A. So you would have to drill new holes. I've already told you what I'm doing, so can't be drilling holes for an incorrect tail lamp.

I've been looking for quite some time for the correct original single on the drivers side. Have a CJ3A ALA type on right now in the interim.

Gary:

Hope I'm not too late.  I'm still on the road and don't get online but every few days.

I got one of these "repros" and I'm a bit disappointed.  But once installed, only the very observant Willys police would notice that they are not 100% correct repros.  Aside from the obvious horizontal vs vertical stud orientation, there are other issues:

The "Stimpsonite" lens has the wrong orientation to the bullseye casting.  The prism  grate should be vertical, but the repro is horizontal.  The triangular shaped prisms covering the rest of the lens have soft rounded edges, whereas an original lens are sharp, so the repro lens doesn't scatter light as well.

The bezel is thinner material and poorly chromed, and fits so tight that you need a screwdriver to pry it off, potentially chipping the housing.

The license lens cutout in the housing is rough and irregular, with raw steel edges, which will cut your finger easily, an rust in no time.

The license lens itself is close, but has the wrong prism grate count.

The fastener clips for the license lens are straignt pieces of sheet metal, not Z-shaped like the original, and can be overtightened, potentially breaking or chipping the license lens.

And finally, the light socket is a modern fixed wire system, not a removeable plug like the original.  The socket does not protrude out the back like an original.

Screws are all philips metric too.

Will do if you're not too picky, but it cannot be considered an accurate repro.

Sean, You are a perfect fit on this page, kinda like going to the dictionary. I truely appreciate your input. I know this is not in the right forum, but the reason I originaly posted is I spent 3 hours fixing a beat-up one I got on "proving grounds". It was smashed bad but somehow the lens wasn't broke, I've never seen one so it was guesswork. My question is how does the lens fit between the main body and the outer ring? was there some gasket to hold it there? It just falls into the body when I put it together. here are a couple pics.

These are the only parts I have, there was no "z" brackets.

Gary;
You are missing the 3 wire clips that holds the lens inside the bezel.
I am sure I have some. will look tomorrow and I will make a
real effort to visit you next week on our way to Akley.

Gary:

Looks like you've got a nice original, good job on the repair!

The right clip in Tims photos is what I've got in mine.  I'll take some close up photos of the Z-clips & all the parts when I get back from travelling.  Be about 10 more days though.
