Here's the view of our camp if you were flying in low and slow to land on the two-track coming into camp in meadow.   So when you get to this intersection, just look for the big yellow map tack above the trees and you'll be able to find us.  LOL   As you can see, we should have a pretty nice view from our campsite.  This image is looking west.

Mike, do I have this right:  It looks to be about 1000 ft. southwest of where Rd. 968 comes in from the east (which goes to Eaton Res)?  I'm using Google Maps.

You're probably right Tom. My map doesn't show Rd. 968, it shows 545 going to the lake, but the distance is about right. The campsite is just about due west of the tip of the lake. If your map shows public/private land, the site is very near where the road goes onto private land. A fence between the two will be the western limit of our site. If you zoom in, you might be able to see the fence, and the cattle guard on 80C.  That's Bull Mountain on the horizon. We will be going up there.   BW

When I was finally able to figure out where the camp was, this is the route that Google advised me to take from Northern Utah. It takes me all the way to Laramie on I80, then south and back west a little.

Is there a better way, or should I just stick with this so I don't get lost?

Stan, I'm not really familiar with that stretch south from Hwy230 on 37, 34, and 89, but if I recall correctly, it's all dirt, and some of it not very nice. I'm real sure that 89 is dirt.
  I would probably stay SW-bound on 230 to Woods Landing and then take Wyo Hwy 10 south to Colorado where it becomes 103. I think 10 is paved to the state line, but 103 is dirt but pretty well kept. That's the way Oilly will be coming and I probably would too. There isn't any good place to turn off of I80 further west except at Wolcott Junction and go south thru Saratoga and Riverside to the place in Colorado we call "3-Way" or "The Y", then back into Wyoming at Wyocolo and on to Woods Landing. Scenic, but not quick, short, or easy.

Shooting Range? That's been on my mind some, too.  BW

for you 230 to Woods landing and then south on 10 and 103. That's the way I'm going. 11.3 miles on 80C sounds much easier to me than from the Fort Collins side. Oilly

Bruce, Google Maps is recommending that I follow this route. 80 to Hwy 30 to 234 to 222 to 31 to 319 to 87C to 80C. 16 hours. Are you familiar with any of these roads? Recommendations?

When I attempt to change the route to what Oily is taking Google Maps refuses to accept 80C from the junction of 103 and 80C, I am assuming this is because it is marked closed from Dec - July.

I'm thinking the same thing. After further review on Google Earth, the route Google Maps is suggesting is all dirt road, some not looking to good. Oily's route is pavement to the state line and then appears to be a maintained main road until it hits 80C. Then it is only 11-12 miles on 80C. If I decide to attend this is most likely the route I will take. According to the maps it adds an hour or more to the trip but I know from last year it took us a couple of hours on 80C once we left the main highway. Slow driving in the RV pulling a trailer.

Glen, I'm not familiar at all with the first part of that (30-234-222), but it doesn't look good to me. I would think that you would be better off to go south out of Laramie on 287 to Tie Siding, then take the last part, 31-319-87C-80C. I am somewhat familiar with that part, I've been that way a time or two. That's the way Google maps wants me to go (N on 287 to Tie Siding etc), and I'm not sure it's the best. One time, two of us left a campsite near where we're going, headed home. He went up 87C etc to Tie Siding then south on 287, I went all the way down 80C to 287. When I pulled up to the stop sign at 287, he went by. I think the 80-230-10-103-80C route is the best for you. 
  Another way that I am considering for myself, that doesn't affect you guys from the North, NW or NE, is to go up Hwy14 through the Poudre Canyon to Chambers Reservoir then North on 103. Hwy 14 is narrow, crooked, and slow, but it's all good paved road. Those coming from South and/or East might consider that. I wouldn't mind having some discussion on that route. Tom? Anyone coming from SW, Mike's got that pretty well figured I think, so you could PM or call him, or discuss it here, so everybody will know.

Now that I know where the camp is, I actually know how to get there!  I drove all these roads last Sept.

For the guys coming from the "mountain south" I like Mike's route the best.  That is north from Walden to Woods Landing then south on Wy 10 (aka 103 in Co), then east on 80C.  Hwy14 east from Walden would also work but it is quite a pull with a trailer up the west side of Cameron Pass.  But doable for sure and a nice drive. 

For the guys coming off of I80, like Glen and Oilly and others, I think Wy.230 south from Laramie to Woods Landing is the ticket.  I have NOT been on that dirt road from Tie Siding but think I'd pass on it if I was driving a rig with a trailer.  The dust alone might make that decision pretty easy. 

The worst parts of 80c are in the eastern stretches - I suppose because of the higher use in the east.  The west part where Bruce' camp is is in pretty nice shape and is good driving even with trailer I would think.  80c from 103 is nice going.  And, all of 103 is a good drive on decent dirt and gravel roads from one end to the other. 

The guys from the east like me and Bruce, and Hawk and many others along the front range and parts south and east may have a tougher decision.  Let's face it, 80c from 287 can be pretty uncomfortable what with the dust, the washboard, and further up it can get tight for a rig with a trailer.  I've been thinking if I can go this year, up Hwy 14 as Bruce mentioned to 103 up on Cameron Pass might be the answer.  Beautiful drive and not too steep until you get nearly to the 103 turnoff on Cameron Pass.  It follows the Cache la Poudre river the whole way.

Yup, it's a short quarter mile west from the west end of road 96B.  I see 96B, not 968, on my map. 

I drove out the west end of 80C, then south on 103 to Hwy 14 to Walden a few years ago on my way home from NCR.  I found the west end of 80C to be a really good gravel road.  103 was that way also, with generally easy grades uphill going south.  Hwy 14 from Chambers lake to Walden was good two-lane paved road with a few interesting stops along the way.  I may go out that way on our way home again this year.  There are some sand dunes that way in North Park that I'd like to explore. 

But to get in there, I'm going from Walden north to Woods Landing (paved).  We'll detour up 125 to see the Beaver Creek burn near the Wyo-Colo border, then back to Cowdrey and turn up CO 127 and WY 230 to Woods Landing.  Then south on WY 10, some paved, some gravel.  Transition to CO 103, all gravel with a mild grade uphill to the junction with 80C.  80C has easy grades and open views for most of the 11.5 miles to our camp.  This route gives us easy grades and open vistas all along the way.  Very pleasant drive - BUT NO SERVICES!!  Be sure to fuel up your tow rig before you leave the last community of any size. 

I agree that the east end of 80C has lots of traffic, lots of up and down hills, plus some steep pulls on some hills.  And the middle part has rocks and potholes that will slow anyone down.  I really recommend anyone coming from south/east to either take Hwy 14 to Chambers lake, or explore 287 north into Wyoming and come south through Woods Landing.

And I'm all for having a "swap-n-shoot" meet out in the meadow.  Bring a rifle or two, and some pistols, with plenty of ammo, and lets give each other a chance to try out different firearms.  Not intended for permanent trades, just the chance to shoot a gun you don't own and would like to try.  Don't forget hearing protection and eye protection.  Does anyone have steel targets they could bring so we don't have to replace paper all the time?

Mike, we may have some useable steel targets, the boys will let me know.  If so I'll bring them.  I may even shoot a little .... I promise not to be too good.

Bruce, what about Red Feather Lakes Road to Deadman Road?  RFL  Road is paved to Red Feather Lakes, straighter and less busy than CO 14.  Are you familiar with the Deadman end?  Can't really scout these out until the snow is gone.

Kate, how thick are your metal targets? LOL Wyo. bearspray might poke holes through them.  I think I remember Jpet talking about the good old days at FCT when they went out and did some shooting. Anyway,  are we talking pistols, black powder, or modern rifles?  Antiques are the coolest. Oilly.

If it weren't snowing I'd take the jeep out back to the shooting range and check the targets, but I'm a wimp.  I'm thinking they may be about worn out, might be ok for a 22, not for your 50 cal muzzle loader.
