.....and here we are today.....
We had some delays with the blast work. The first place couldn't get the work done on the tub. While they did a great job on the small parts, the tub was too big a job. I brought it over to the guy that did the body tub for me. He gave me a decent deal to prime and epoxy prime the tub, fenders and tailgate. All the small parts and axle have at least two coats of POR-15. Now a sand and top coat of black are next. I'm pretty sure I have all the parts I need to assemble.I had to fix the spring plates as the shock mounts broke upon disassembly. The tub and fenders are, shall we say, well used. I am doing my best not to overdue the body prep. This will be a working trailer. So the sooner I shoot the paint the better off I'll be! I will do some fill work on the gate. But that's it. I'm even leaving the fenders alone - dings and all. Some pics.... |

I finished refurbishing the hitch. Pleased with it's condition and the outcome. I may add a rubber pad to the bottom of the landing foot.
I'm about ready to paint the sheetmetal. Little more sanding here and there should do the trick. I really did no work to the tub. I concentrated mostly on making the tailgate and fenders presentable and smooth. Yeah....I know i swore wouldn't go this far. But i couldn't help myself. |

Added a few details to the tub prior to paint.
I welded in some tabs/hooks for cargo securing - total of four. One at each corner. I also added some tabs on the upper rail. I added six in total. I like these tabs because they do not rise above the rail. I strapped a piece of 3/8ths flat stock to the tub in order to clamp them prior to welding. This kept them flush and parallel to each other. I figure these can be used to secure a future rack, or maybe a hinged cover. Just trying to think ahead so I don't have to do any mods after paint. I do want this trailer to have multiple uses. |

I had to flip the tub over to repair a section in the frame rail. No pictures as it was pretty straightforward.....and I forgot to document the before and after.
Anyway, while the tub was upside down, I start contemplating the tail lights and their mounts. I started to bend up some sheet metal. My thought we to use a bracket to hold the light to the tub, similar to what the Swiss had done. Then it sort of came to me - use the struts. I searched around my scrap pile because I just knew I had some 2 1/2 inch round discs I had cut out f 1/8 plate kicking around. I found them and they became the mount for the light. Then I got a little fancy and drilled the struts so I could completely conceal the wiring. Sounds a little silly. But I ended up mounting the lights via a very simple method, and getting a custom touch as a side benefit! The lights are Naco repops that will match the 2A. At this point, I'm going to finish sand the tub and get ready for paint With a little luck, maybe as soom as next weekend. |

Green stuff happened.
Tomorrow we flip her over and paint the interior, then final coat the sides. I was having a hell of a time with my gun. I ended up with two big runs I need to repair in the AM. Turns out the lid on HVLP was clogged. That tiny little hole that allows the paint to flow - yeah....you need that to be clear. Dumb mistake that I won't be making again. With a little luck all the paint will be complete by EOD Sunday. Then I can start assembly shortly after. |

And....we're done.
I have to chuckle a bit. The fenders will look out of place when compared to the wrinkled panels on the trailer! We'll hit Fastenal for some hardware tomorrow and start put her back together. |

Looks great, Nofender. What brand/type paint did you use? Looks like single-stage urethane. I'll be painting my M100 this spring.

Thank you! Yes sir - single stage urethane. Nothing too fancy. It's VERY forgiving. I got the paint from TCP Global. It's their house brand. So not sure who makes it for them.

We are getting closer....
We are fully wired up. All major components are hung. We are about ready to flip her over and mount the tailgate and fenders. I also made a bumper for the rear. It was missing something there. I think this makes it look more finished. Although i dread it, I'll likely service the bearings while it's upside down. It'll be easier. Hope to to be all done in a week or two. |
