just like the jeep of the same color, that trailer has come a long way it's lucky to have you
matching rims.... matching tires?

Thanks gents. Appreciate the kind words.
So we wrapped up 95% of the assembly. I'm holding off on mounting the e-brake as i have to redo that front panel. So I'll hold off for now. All the e-brake parts are installed underneath. Swapped around some hubs and brake bits to get all the lug nuts turning the same way. Serviced the bearings while I was at it. Anyway - trying to decide on tires. I took the best two rims from the pile and started to polish them up before I ran out of steam. My debate is tire size. I have a spare from the Jeep that I used to mock up. I think they might be a bit big. I"m afraid they may rub some with a little weight in the trailer. But it sure would look cool having them match all the way through. I found a sweet vintage looking tire that I could go with. It has an old school tread pattern that you'd expect to see on an old trailer. So thus....my debate. What say you? |

Rims are done....after a few hours of labor. I went ahead and ordered two new tires that match the Jeep! Probably put the new ones on the Jeep. I'll take a pair off the jeep for the trailer. Then again - maybe not. The Jeep tires are nearly new anyway.

Those rims look great! i'm guessing you'll find the need to put the trailer tires into "the rotation" as the jeep tires will undoubtedly see more wear. Were it me I'd put the new ones on the trailer for my hero shots, lol, then take the two"worst" and start them on the trailer and put the new ones on the ride so they can catch up.
Yes, I'm that vain, and no, I don't have any problem suggesting more work for you |

Wheels look good.....what did you use to polish them?
Polishing aluminum is such a tedious thing. After that initial 'these look great' then comes finishing the job ,after the first one or two then it kinda drags. I've always had GREAT respect for those that have the 'stick-to-it' effort of polishing an Airstream. Did you use one of the many drill attachments on the market these days? |

Thanks. It's all by hand....because I"m too cheap to buy the buffing tools. I used a variety of abrasives in stages. green scouring pads lubed with WD40 for the first stage of corrosion knock down 150 grit for the deep nicks and deformations (especially around the lug area. I use a DA in certain areas. 220 for clean up 320.....for more cleanup 400.......for more clean up 600.......yep clean up 800.......it's getting annoying now AJAX - secret ingredient. I use a wet sponge and scrub lightly to get a smooth finish. Summit racing aluminum polish is the last step. They are far from perfect as these wheels are well used. But the results are more than acceptable and it's cheap to do.

We got our hitch all set up - or should I say hitches. Figured I would set this up to move multiple trailers around. So I did the pintle and also set her up to move the big trailer around if needed. I got them all to clear each other, largely by luck. But everything has the room it needs to function.
Then we got the tires mounted up. I put the brandy new ones on the front of the Jeep. Then brought the front ones to the trailer. Still a couple small details to wrap up. But the trailer is mostly done at this point. Now I'm off to finish up my friend's M-416. |

Added a little jewelry today. I've been casually looking for a vintage extinguisher. I stumbled upon this one for very reasonable money and snagged it. Now she's mine....
