I am installing a Pertronix 2541N6 into my Autolite IAD4008 distributor.

I think I have it right but I find the instructions vague. I have googled a few videos but none are specific to my set up.

Does anyone have experience with this upgrade?
Does this look correct?
Does it need a ground wire attached?

(1946 CJ2A L134 engine)

Thanks

Jon

Do I have the new backing plate in the correct orientation or am I 180• out?

Should a ground go on one of the plate screws like this?

The plate is grounded through the distributor body. You can check with your multimeter.
The pickup appears
to be in the same place as the points were.

And the Petronix unit does not need to be grounded like points. It is a switch that as the magnet rotates is opened and closed tripping the coil to collapse the field and create spark. The two wires are all that is needed.

FYI, don't remove the tape from the pick up as the magnets will fly out on startup.

I'm not sure which coil you are connecting it to, but here is the diagram for a keyed coil application that I had signed off by the Pertronix tech guy.

If it doesn't help you, it may someone else.
