I got to tell you looking at 40 pages of my Project thread with most of the photos stripped out by those greedy SOB's really takes the wind out of me. I have 10-12 years of photos in a number of on line forums that are now crap. REALLY put a damper on having 4 days off after weeks of 60 hour weeks.

After being greeted with 5 pop-up ads every time I clicked on Photobucket, I searched for a better site.
https://imgur.com/ is my favorite. It's simple to use and is hosting 2,500 of my photos! Once in a while their traffic gets heavy and the server stops responding, but typically lasts only a couple minutes. The founder of Imgur specifically created it for 3rd party site hosting. He was exhausted of sites such as Photobucket.

Nick,
Since you suggested using imgur I took a look at their terms. I found this paragraph labeled "things not to do" Right in the middle of the paragraph it seems to say that they don't want us to use their site for hosting. Maybe I am misunderstanding it, but it seems like the could do what Photobucket is doing any time they want. If someone else might own the copyright to it, don't upload it. Don't upload gore, "hate speech" (i.e. demeaning race, gender, age, religious or sexual orientation, etc.), or material that is threatening, harassing, defamatory, or that encourages violence or crime. Don't upload illegal content such as child porn or nonconsensual ("revenge") porn. Don't hotlink to adult content or to file-sharing, gambling, torrent, warez, or Imgur rip-off sites. Don't impersonate someone else. Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it. |

I am in agreement with Stan, it looks like Imgur has wording that could become an issue later.
It is important to this forum that images be available for the identification and judging the condition of various component parts of the Jeeps that we restore, repair, and drive. It is also very desirable that we are able to share experiences both in the shop and on the trail. Photobucket has gutted most of the build thread pictures on the forum. Build threads should have pictures to communicate the process of the rebuild; to not have pictures is mostly an effort at thrashing around in the dark. I can understand charging money for someone posting pictures to a for-profit site they operate, but for something that is no-profit or non-profit as the CJ-2A Forum is, in my estimation a crock. I have removed all my photos from Photobucket, told them to not bother me again, and I hope they choke on this decision of theirs. I don't care what they do in the future, I'm shut of them. We need a solution to this problem. Like someone a long time ago said, "a picture is worth a thousand words." Edited by SE Kansas 46 CJ-2A - 02 July 2017 at 8:29pm |

That's odd. Imgur (image url) was created by a Reddit user who wanted a fast, no-nonsense 3rd party hosting site.
Just in case of the event all my pictures disappear, I keep saved files of my build threads. You can do this by: Right click -> print -> save as PDF.

I believe it is the image linking that you need, i.e. Plus 100 membership.
I became a Plus 100 member a while back because I needed way more than the 2 GB that the free account offers. Right now I have used 92% of my 100 GB. All of my image links are still visible on the forum. |

I was telling Mark W. That I have been using Dropbox for years and it always has worked for me, they were even able to get back some pics that I deleted by mistake, I have it on 3 devices and it's easy to move stuff back and forth. I take a picture with my phone and resize it and send it to Dropbox. Makes it easy to post and I can still have the original somewhere else. I use the free version and it works fine for me. Pictures I have posted and then deleted from Dropbox to make more space still stay on the forum. I never was a fan of the bucket.

I have a Dropbox and it is very handy for file storage. The only thing I don't like about Dropbox is that you can't upload images in a background app. From my phone, I have to keep Dropbox open in the fore-front and I cant let my phone go to sleep or the download stops .... unless I'm doing something wrong.

Can't help you there, I'm the do one thing at a time and screw it up anyway type. Most of my Dropbox stuff I have somewhere else anyway. I like it because I can move stuff between 3 devices without hooking up cables or handling those tiny storage cards. If I need more room I just delete some older stuff, but don't do what I did.
I deleted some stuff from my computer without checking to see if it was backed up somewhere else, and forgetting that they are not just deleted from my computer, they were deleted from Dropbox. I got in touch with them and they were able to retrieve all of them, great service. All of that doesn't solve your issue but I thought Put it up, good luck. |

To try and help with hosting more images here, I have upped the file size and increased the maximum storage amount here.

I was following that as a really good guide for building up my L134 new block. |

I sent them an e-mail the other day to tell them that their actions are ridiculous. I will not be held hostage or pay ransom to have my pictures posted for public pleasure. It is beyond reproach to gather peoples pictures and post them, and then request an annual ransom to keep them posted! It was also mentioned that they are not the only pebble on the beach, and that a large number of customers will be leaving their fold in the very near future! Then they have the audacity to use the term "customer loyalty"??

The problem is, how can you trust any "free" picture hosting site. What stops them from doing the same thing in the future? I have started storing mine in my user space, but the inability to manage them in subfolders, makes it near impossible to find old data
My pictures have not disappeared yet since I am already paying $100 per year for more space. I understand that this is only good for a year. In the mean time, I suppose, I will print off my biggest projects such as "Make Your Own Canvas Top", "Top Bows & Doors", and Building a Universal Modified" on pdf format and then put a link to the pdf in each respective thread. It's just too much work to go back and edit all these post and redirect the photo links. I have years of photos committed to links on photobucket. All the jeep adventures, 8 years of FCT, e.t.c. For this reason, I will not trust any "free" web hosting site. I don't trust Google either. All the free photo and cloud storage..... what's in it for them? What stops them from doing them same thing one of these days? |

Same thing happened with my photos on my phone. It appears Verizon Cloud forces you pay them a fee for any and all pics you have stored in your cloud or you lose them, so I lost a bunch of pics there too. As I will not be held prisoner in any app or website.
So watch out there too
