Hi Jeff,

the body number is the original match to your frame number...

the late engine 576XXX is only 4000 short from being a perfect set...

your DOD is probably 11 APRIL 1945

hood number would have been about 207009XX to 2027011XX

Thanks for the info Jim. As soon as I finish up Joe's top I'll be hitting this project hard again.

Here are some pics of my carb:

I don't see a stamp in the base but I'm thinking it is a 539s.

Here is my problem:

Anyone got one?   .... or can it be repaired?

If it were me....to save time until I found a replacement. I would use a couple small nails as dowels that would be inserted into holes you would drill. Then put it back together with JBweld. Then again...you could just JBweld it first and see if it works. Stuff is great as long as you prep right. It's been holding the output flange together on my motorcycle for 5 years now.

Thanks for the tip Raven ..... but I should bring this thread up to speed :

Scoutpilot has me all fixed up. Hard to believe that this is the same carb pictured above.

Thanks Rick for your craftsmanship and your contribution to Project "Bam Bam".

Hi All,

I'm getting ready to fix some body panels.   By checking my tub, and from what I have read, I see that the majority of the metal is 18 gauge. I have read that the rear panel is also 18 gauge. Mine appears to be 16 gauge but it is so far gone that I don't trust it. Can one of you g503 owners confirm the actual thickness of the rear panel for me?

Thanks

Thanks Russ:

Can you snap a couple pics of this piece:

.... with a tape measure in the pic so I can scale it. I'm guessing that the rear one is taller than the front one since the sump appears to not be parallel when it sits in the tub. Any pics of the sump area with a tape measure in them would be appreciated. The sump in all my tubs is long gone and I'm on the road so I can't get to them anyway.

Here are two shots first show the thickness of the back panel as measured from the taillight hole.
The second is the distance across the top of the sump.
(more pictures tomorrow, I have to re-shoot a few!)

Jeff, that's a drain for the fuel sump so it is lower than the rest of the sump. . There are quite a few threads on the 503 if you can get search to work, comparing the correct parts with the wrong ones...and of course there is Jeepdraw with Jon's restrictions on use. Be warned the fuel sump is a first place to look for originality with the jeep police, and any "error" will be pointed out many times anywhere they are. I know you aren't building a 100 point show jeep, but as always correct is best. Wink

I can't wait to see how this all turns out.

. Yes, I have seen a lot of information over on the G and I'm sure I could make one that looks pretty close using those photo but there is not enough technical information to construct one to match an original.

It would be in my best interest to do just that. I could get the drawings and just make one for myself and be done. If I have to use Jeepdraw, I will but then I will honor the restrictions, but if the g503 owners on this forum will supply me with photographs of the different pieces of the sump assembly, i will make the drawings and publish them with the building techniques as I have in the past. If anyone else likes that idea, I'd appreciate photos straight on with a tape measure in them for scaling. Thanks in advance.

. Yup. I don't need my sump to be spot on and in fact would not want it to be mistaken for an original but I would like my/our data to be correct as possible.

Me either. . Hopefully I can get off the road and get this stuff made. Need a little data first though. If someone has an old sump that is good enough to get good measurements from, I'd pay shipping if I could borrow it for a while.

Well you could always go to Coleman while you are in TX.and pick up a spare tub... But I think both have had sump repairs done  and civvy tanks....IIRC. I do have a couple spares in the boxcar that weren't bad in that area..

Turns out my rear axle was from a GPA, or at least made for a GPA:

Notice that it has a flange at the snout of the hogs head:

..... it also has two sets of spring perches.  the outer unused perches are broken off on the back side and do not have a pad for the axle snubber:
