Sean,

Even the knock out fits against the flat edge of the mirror pivot just like it should without any play!

So does the knockout keep the mirror from 'twirling' or what? Or is it supposed to hold it steadier?

P.S.
I found out I've got a mirror, a 'real' one!  woo hoo!!!! Thumbs%20Up

Chad,

I'd say that it keeps the pivot from spinning when you attach the mirror, like a jamb nut.

For one or both of:
  1. As Art said, prevents the swivel post from rotating as you tighten the attaching screw
  2. Prevents the swivel post from loosening when you adjust the mirror (CCW rotation)

My PTO cover parts arrived and look great! Haven't put them on as yet. Opted for the black zinc plating and am very pleased with the results. Thank you Sean for the great work and good luck!

Sean,

Did you make the dies for these brackets?
Did you press the parts out yourself ?  If so, I may have some questions about the process.

Great Job!

Jeff:
Quote Did you make the dies for these brackets?
Yes.  Crude, and short-lived, but worked well enough for short-run.

Quote Did you press the parts out yourself ?
No.  I don't have the right tools for that.  The blanks were laser-cut by a fab shop.

No and no!

The cost of having proper Tool & Die pieces fabricated was prohibitive: $600-1200. So I just concocted something together out of pieces from my scrap bin. I said it was crude, belive me. It was merely an experiment to see if it I could do it.

It worked quite well though, good enough to get me thru a 25-piece production run! It's about wore out now, & needs re-sharpening, maybe complete retooling.
