Yes, you can have too much motor in a Jeep.

Naaaaaaa.  The caveat is how the engine is built and the maturity of the ECU in charge of the right foot.  Nothing like heaps of torque right at idle for rocks.

As to the side by side debate, those UTV's come in a huge variety of forms.  My wife and I finally bought a 2016 RZR 900 Trail a couple months back.  Why???  Has something to do with the 50" trail limitations, something a Willys is never going to be successful meeting (and I did think about it).

Our first RZR trail adventure was indeed a baptism and we found the limitations of the stock suspension/clearance.  Since that trip, it has received a full 1/2" UHMW plastic skid plate, a 2" lift, and aftermarket springs (sound familiar?).  Piloting it wasn't much different than the Jeeps except I lifted wheels more and slid over a lot more boulders on the skid plates.  Speed rarely exceeded 5 mph.

Would I have purchased a side by side if it wasn't for the 50" rule?  Nope, not a chance.
