I posted this in a reply, but decided to post it as a new subject also
Regards, Onward with the rebuild. I downloaded the universal service manual and am working from that. I replaced the metering rod, metering jet, and main nozzle, as they were included in the kit. As I read through the manual and the adjustments, I find I need some special gauges, which of course I don't have!
To adjust the metering rod, back out throttle lever adjusting screw "C", Fig. 120, and close the throttle tight. Using gauge T-109-26, Fig. 120, (supplied by Carter Carburetor Co.) loosen nut "B" and move pin until it seats in the notch of the gauge. To adjust the pump stroke, pump gauge T-109- 117C (supplied by Carter Carburetor Co.) should be used. Anyone have a work around for not having these gauges? Finally (for now) there is a factory hole in the body that goes through to the meter (see picture) Is this normal? I have looked through many pictures but can't find a straight on picture. In the angled pictures, there doesn't appear to be a plug there Thank you, |

Go to YOU TUBE and punch in Carter WO Carb. Look for article Adjustment of accelerator pump and metering rod by Rick Pacholski. Punch on that. Great information.

Forgot about the hole. That is a bleed hole which is machined into the casting. Do not close it off.

Search for the mightymo carter rebuild guide! You can buy a metering rod setting tool from Walcks or machine your own if you have the resources. Also, you can buy a cheap 64ths machinists ruler to set your accelerater pump travel from HF or another tool store.

Those special tools bubble up on ebay. A patient guy can acquire a pretty good set for cheap.

One thing to remember on the pump stroke adjustment, Carter manual say's good to go at Plus or Minus 1/64 of an inch so to make it simple, go 16/64 and do the math which comes out to 1/4 of an inch so no need for a 64th ruler. Just my two cents.

Don't become hung up on the accelerator pump travel, odds are the previous adjustment on the rod is within tolerance. They don't tend to be out of spec without bubba's interference.
