Hey Sean, There is another, in my 45 and two early 46 column shifts the tank says TANK AUTO. I have all the other tanks your talking about. I mention this to Gary at the reunuion. I do think these are the originals.

Sam,
I guess original may be a misnomer(sp)? The original tank I'm referring to is the one in my first post, the one marked with the big "A" on it. Just trying to pin down what is original.
Tony,
try sending me some more pics and I'll see if I can post them for you. (last time I couldn't but maybe the Cat can.)
Gary

Here's the 2 from my '46 & '47. Turns out the '46 is not original (I had already suspected that, not being body color):
The 2 tanks are identical except for the rear bracket mount. The '46 (black) rear bracket is 2" further inward, so doesn't line up w/the tub bolt hole. That's why I can't find my rear bracket: never had one! Anyone know what this tank was made for? The side forming is the same as Garys unmarked one, w/more rounded edges: Both filler necks flanged & spot welded: Seam crimps smooth, not serrated: Sean Edited by sean - 22 June 2007 at 11:48am |

OK, I assumed they were '48 since your photos were all called "48-" sumpthin. Can you get a closer shot of the logo on the back of the green one? And is that end indented, as opposed to outdented like most others? Sean |

i have, yet another version of the "tank auto", this time with smaller font, and the symbol on the same side as the name mark...along with the "HMMP" (?) version of tank. we are trying to decipher which we are going to refurb for the '45. Also, it is hard to see, but the bafle inside the tank auto looks as if they used the outer panel for the baffle, as it has the same namesake stamping on the side of it. both side panels on the tank auto are indented in, not outwards, and it's neck is welded, not soldered, like the other tank ..the sending units are different, the raised housing one has a cork float, the flat housing one has a soldered float. low
