Here's a pic of my original...isn't she purty! CJ2A SN 78627

Hopefully someone can fill in the appropriate part numbers as I do not have a book yet.

Doug, Do you have the left side? The hook is different on the chain.
I have a rivet from one of my covers. I still need  those rivets. I have used the Rivet Guy in the past but not for just a couple of rivets. I can post  the size if it is value. Looks like yours uses four rivets. (two on each side) at the ends of the cover. As I recall mine had one rivet in the middle of the cover.
The other question is how the chains attach to the tub. Mine were secured with 3/16 cold shut links. How many links in the chain? Mine has 11, I think, 12 including the cold shut.

gotta be careful with these "cold shut" links.  Most common ones these days are about the same size as an oval chain link.  The one in the photo is a longer variety, which I have seen from time to time over the years, but I think only in "older" stuff I have picked up along the way.  I wonder if the longer variety--clearly longer than the links of the chain--or the shorter variety--about the same size as the links--was "original"  Someone surely would/should know.  I think the ovals on the original chains are a bit elongated compared to chain one would buy now in a hardware store.

Howard

Here's the only pics I have on file of that Jeep. I can take a look and get better photos of what I have in a few days.

More chain pics, but I forgot to make note of the SNs. Will get that info and edit it into this post.

For starters, the blue Jeep is 29??? 46 column shift. connecting links are welded.

The first pic of  John Deere Green Jeep is a 47. Cold Closure link

Remaining John Deere Green Jeep pics are my late 46 floor shift 78???
Bolted on

The almost green/mostly rust jeep is a 47 junker I have. Welded links.

I have a question here on the width of the hook....Seems every one I see here is different. I've got two samples, take a look and see whats on yours. The first is an late column shift, Both of the arcs are the same. (notice the offset compound bend)  The second a late, '48. The offset bend is not as pronounced and the curve is tighter (The otheside was bent up a bit)
What does your tailgate hook looK like?

ok.. so what is the correct number?
And when you say 'with cold link'... does this mean ' 11 links including cold link' or '11 links plus cold link'? Sorry to beat this into the ground.
