What have you taller drivers done to increase comfort driving your 2a? What I have done to fit all 6’ 3” of me into a small vehicle πŸš—.

Removing the seat back cushion. This was a 3” increase in legroom by itself.

I recently installed a 1” spacer between the front of the seat pan and seat frame to raise the front of the seat in order to spread out the β€œload” to my legs and not just my posterior.

Of course there is the nuclear option of notching the wheel house and moving the seat rearward, one of my Jeeps is set up this way and I find it very comfortable but it’s a permanent modification.

What other tricks have you tried?

You could make a seat back cushion using a single 1/2" thick layer of Ensolite (the backpacking sleeping pad foam) It would cushion your back just enough as its so dense while not hurting your leg room very much.

Rob,
I took out 3 inches of metal in the wheel housing. I took an old 2A seat frame, cut the middle of the seat I was going to use and extended it there. The front of the seat frame is still bolted in the factory  location holes.

I don't think there are lot of options for tall drivers like us.

Another option is to cut out the lower left side of the seat frame then extend the lower frame rails. The seat will move back past the wheel housing. I did this on my 2A and gained 3" of additional clearance. This avoids having to chop up the wheel housing. The seat back did not need any modification.

Yes, a photo would be helpful. I’m not picturing this mod in my head. I’ll take any trick I can get; sometimes I just hang my left foot out of the tub and rest it on the fender.

Need to practice loading photos, maybe you can get the general idea what I did. I just didn't want to cut the wheel house out, figured I could replace the seat if necessary and be back to original.

that sure looks uncomfortable πŸ˜‚.  But in all seriousness, A+ for thinking Outside the box.   BUT, I looks like  you moved the seat back, but also looks like you moved it up too,   Isnt that counter productive when trying to gain room behind the fixed wheel.

Yes, t was very uncomfortable then I remembered to put the seat cushions back in!! The lower cushion bolted back in the original holes, I extended the lower frame rail 3" which allowed 3" more space from the steering wheel. The back cushion is now right up against the wheel house. The front feet on the frame bolted back to the original mounting. Even if you cut out the wheel housing it is still necessary to extend the lower rail a few inches to move the seat toward the back.

That's pretty creative, I like it.  Could you post a photo from the back of the seat with the cushion in place? Thanks.

Here is a close up that shows how the cushion goes up against the wheel house. Don't think I have one from the back but will take one and get it posted.
