With standard Ross steering system it's certainly best to keep tires as narrow as possible.
Really no arguing that point
It's possible but going to be extremely hard to beat the STA 6.50 x 16" Super Traxions. The old 6.50 x 16" Iltis Michelin Military tires were certainly tops. I ran a set of those on my last build. Running the STA's on a current build. Those tires are followed by the 215 /85/ 16 sized radials. Not sure why anyone thinks radials are better than the STA's on an old Jeep. Yet I expect the abundantly siped radials have an advantage over the STA's on wet/oily roads. I can assure you that ride quality at Hiway speed is not an issue for the Willys. The bias tires have much tougher sidewalls to resist side punctures. |

As a matter of taste, I personally think the STAs are as ugly as homemade sin. I like the Cooper STT or the Goodyear Duratrac, neither of which I can afford, darn it...
