If I'm understanding that picture correctly Art, what does it do when the hood is up? Shine in your face? <g>
Is it somehow detachable from its bracket?
Seeya!

It does not detach.

Goes out when tilting the hood closed after a cetain point.

The lamps are very simular to what GM used under car hoods for years.

It just does not seem correct for the Flat Fender hood application in my opinion.

Like you said it shines right in your face.

I've seen Art's photo before and have had my eye out for one for a while now but no luck. I think I'd need to find a NOS one to actually put it on my Jeep and even then might pass, kinda looks to new for me.

Seems I remember the same light(bracket may be different, but "why"?) on new Chevrolet's in the '70s, maybe even into the '80s. Even on those, they shined in your eyes, burned you if you got against them, and ran the battery down if the hood was open all day or night. We used to bend them down so they would go off, and usually forget to bend them up again when the car was done. I may have a couple around here somewhere.  BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Bruce those are the ones I'm thinking too.

And we also sometime forgot to bend them back.

Y'know, I was recently down at my buddy's garage, and he was working on some car or another that had an under-hood light...and it wasn't on. I realized that I have seen a number of them on various and sundry over time, but never one that was on, so I asked him if they ever work. <g> He said that not that he's seen around there! Seems that they either burn out, or the switch goes bad (probably from dust and dirt), etc. But almost every one that I've noticed would do just what I mentioned before...shine in your eyes, rather than on the engine compartment.

I have at least seen a few that are detachable (on more modern cars), and some with a magnet, so that they could be moved around...but my "trouble light" will continue to be the screen on my cell phone! <g> When I have a problem, I'll pull it out and dial for help! <g> (Besides, I have yet to take my Jeeps out in the dark! <g> There might be a "boogie man" waitin' t' catch me!)

Seeya!

Jack,
My 84 XJ has an under the hood light.  With a retractible cord no less.  There is a magnet on the light as well.  I could real this thing all the way around to the back of the Jeep if I wanted to.  And it would stick in place with the magnet until I realed it back in.  I'd say the cord is 15 feet or more.  I know werer getting way off the original subject here but just thought I would chime in.  Good luck finding a NOS on that light.

Hello All's
Please find an original picture of the real under hood light willys part number 94019.
I bought long time ago an old book with original pictures of most of the Willys accessories.
I join also one picture of the under hood light assembly on Jeepster of my father.
this light works great, when we open the hood the light come!
If you want more detail please ask!
