A couple weeks ago my Dads second wife passed away (we were not close). Anyway one of her sons contacted me they were cleaning up the house and wanted to give me those items that were my dads (well at least the ones they didn't want since I will never know what happened to a LOT of things that should have been included)

Anyway I been going through some of the boxes sorting and I came across a B&W photo I took of CHUG most likely in my Jr or Sr year of High school when it was as close to being my daily driver as I got.

I have the Plates and the Tires (they are my work set) I can tell this was taken before the summer of 1976 (I graduated in 76) both because it would have been developed in the High school dark room ( I believe I last took Photography my Jr year) and because its prior to laying it over on its side (windshield frame is still straight) Also in Oregon the Sticker on the Plates were only good for two years. And Chug was not driven on the road after Sept 19th 1976.

So here is what Chug looked like when I was driving it in high school.

I just realized the best part of this photo being found is that I can recreate the tow bar dad made for Chug. My younger brother the one that took the head off of the engine which lead to its ruin. Also loaned the tow bar to someone he worked with never to be seen again.

I don't plan on towing CHUG anywhere as you guys know I am building it for the road as well as off road.

BUT there's nothing wrong with having a Tow bar I can attach with a quick swap for my front tow shackles JUST in case!

Hey Bruce, IIRC, the Oregon plates on my Baja were good for four years & cost $20.00 for the stickers. The stickers came in four colors, & they rotated through them every four years. Again, IIRC, they were blue, yellow, red & orange.

I bought the Baja the year I graduated, it was 1976, & the plates on it were good until 1980.

You have to go through those old pictures once in a while. I sat down with my mom and grandmother and they didn't know about a few of them. Anymore I just tell people to write info on the back of the photo. The best one we found was a picture of my grandfather and all of his baseball team members, brothers and cousins. I don't know the date but is a brass era car in the background. My sister in law "borrowed" it...

Way cool.
I don't think there ever were any pics of mine in high school.

I like having a tow bar on mine.
Even if it is never towed, it can deflect brush some.

Cool photo! I like the parking(directional?) lights, put a similar set on the rear of my jeep. Joe W

Wow...how cool is that...a pic of the past and you still own the same Jeep....that is like 42 years with the same vehicle...I bet that is some sort of record...

Congrats on getting the picture...I had a stepmother too and she "suddenly lost" so much of what my dad was going to give to me too...at least you got the picture...

mikec4193 actually its more like 55 years with the same jeep. Dad bought it from a farmer in 1962 near as I can find out. He had another jeep or maybe two after I found out some info last night looking at his old check registry. In 1960 he made a $400 deposit into his account with the notation JEEP I know that the 1949 he had before CHUG (my jeep) was sitting side by side with CHUG in Oct 1962 during the Columbus Day storm (tropical Typhoon that hit the west coast) I also remember seeing it parked there as a 5 year old.

Which would mean there could have been another Jeep that had to do with that deposit.

I'll see my mom this afternoon and see what she might remember,
