I realy tend to agree with Bruce. For me its all about having a great time. So I feel the "on your own" approach is best. Haul everything you may possibly need to survive the trek. If you can't haul it then you certainly don't need it. That implies a smaller private adventure. No rollbars required... If you wanna roll it then that's your own stupid business. If I have a dependable running Jeep at that time then count me in. I'll drive my rig out West, no trailer required. Done that sorta venture before and its way past time for me do it again. So many trails and so little time... Ha Ha Ha !

Rubi is on my to do list...but probably will be in 2018 as next summers main trip will be up to explore southern BC in Canada. My wife has a family reunion planned in that area so might as well do some jeeping and camping while there i figure. Other than that some in our bunch have discussed maybe the easter safari at moab,or the CFFC that we have wanted to attend since its beginning.

What part of southern BC are you headed for? I live just a few miles east of the Okanagan valley. We did that BC trail rides this summer, and had a lot of fun!

Got our rally finished the 24 July, and then my engine decided he had worked hard enough and now I have to rebuild it! Hope to have it done by spring, and get back to jeeping!!

I've been looking at the Rubicon schedule and talkiing to some jeepers. I think the best dates would be June 26 -27.
This is the week after the Black Hills Run. This way the jeepers coming from the east can group two trips into one if they want. August is very busy for the Rubicon. July has several other jeep gatherings put on by page members. Mid to late June was highly recommended to me by the local jeepers. This is the week after the "Rubithon" and should not be crowded.

Jeff that sounds like as good a time as any to me. I like the idea of avoiding the crowds for sure. What about the weather during that time? That isn't their rainy season is it? Or do they even have a rainy season?

I was told that in order to avoid the crowd and still have good weather it's good to do the trail in mid to late June or in September. The Rubithon is going on the third week in June so the fourth week should be pretty good. I can't speak to the rainy season. Perhaps some locals can chime in. The BHR is going on the third week of June. Like Stan, I have to plan these trips logistically. Since some of us from the Midwest will already be at Oilly's the third week in June, we might as well tug the trailer to Lake Tahoe afterwards. I've also been in contact with the RubiconFoundation.org. They have been helpful and supplied me with a calendar of events. They think the 4th week of June would be a good time to do the trail. They could probably answer any questions better than I can.

I'm thinking I could put off Sturgis for a different year and go on this ride. My God son lives in Utah and it would a perfect excuse to go out for a couple of weeks and visit as well. I'm a "definite maybe", depending on any court time that may come up.

I've been in Yosemite a couple of times in late June where the Tioga Pass road was still closed for snow. The Rubicon trail is lower, I think which should help speed the melting.

I was told by the Rubicon Foundation that the snow is gone by the last week in June. Unless someone here has been there and seen snow during that week, I assume it will be ok.

The trails may be open but there will still be lots of snow at higher elevations. The Sierras are getting hammered this year. Bring cold weather stuff!
