I got to trailer my jeep home today after the Carburator flooded out during a short drive. It was only a mile and a half walk but it was very hot out today. This has never happened before.

Yesterday - delivered my son's YJ to it's new owner in Vermont. After 12 years it was tough to see it go. But it was time.

Cleaned up the big Jeep after an impromptu mud run last weekend. I hate mud....

Took the flatty for a 10 mile loop in the country. It is really shaping up. Driving nice! Although the suspension is horrible. It rides like a horse cart. But i don't care! Wink

I scrubbed and cleaned the T90 case and started on some of the parts. It will take a couple evenings to get everything clean. Then I can inspect everything and make a shopping list.

Yesterday I ordered parking light stuff, a stop for my throttle cable, and a new brake light switch. And best of all, I found my telltale light in a shoebox with a good bulb still in it! Now if I can just figure out where it's wire connectsBig smile!

I've also ordered a tail gate repair section from Mike in Oregon, so today I put my battered tailgate in my new (low tech) shop press to flatten it out.
What do you all think? ๐Ÿ˜•

Hey eestes just did the same things your doin now, the telltale light goes to the dimmer switch on the floor same terminal as the brights on the head lights, as far as the tailgate press... whatever works! If your planning on a lot of welding I'd look for metal plate though. Joe W

Wow, that is low-tech.  I would at least use some C-clamps...  Big smile

It will be easier to flatten it out after removing the old hinge.     Which repair section did you get?  The entire bottom,  or just the middle section?

Do you have the means to get it welded in?   I would be happy to help. Smile    although I will not have free time for a few weeks. Ouch

Joe, thanks for the wiring help! Thats been a pain ln this Jeep, but I've got most worked out! I need a shed of metal under the tail gate to protect the table, right? And I may need to try to replace some of the tailgate sheet metal to have something to weld the new piece to- it's really bad.
Ol', thanks for your comment! Around here it's mostly low tech or NO tech LOL!
Ron, I got the middle section and I appreciate the offer, but I finaly got a mig. This will be my first attempt to weld anything on the Jeep. Hey, I figure if it turns out too bad I'll just run without a tailgate and tie stuff down! Ouch Looking forward to your trip out West from my rocker on the porch!

I need a SHEET of metal

Rick - If I may offer a suggestion since you are new to the MIG - get yourself a welding spoon.

HF no longer sells it, but they are available from many sources.  They are great for backing up sheet metal to avoid burn through.  Last year I resurrected a Ford model T pickup bed and tail gate for a jalopy project.  The tail gate was bent up and full of extra holes and tears.  I was able to straighten it out and weld up all the holes and tears with a MIG.  The welding spoon really helped.

I did not know about a welding spoon.  A welder/heavy equipment operator at the refinery I worked at showed me what he used.  He had several pieces of copper tubing that he had flattened one end and had bent at different angles.  The handle end sure gets hot but I use a pair of vice grips to hold it.

Steve, thanks for the tip on the copper spoon.   I'd read about using copper to back the welding, but I don't have any yet.
