SO today I pulled the mostly welded roll bar off so I could weld the underside of the braces where they meet the main hoop. This would come to bite me in the ass big time in the near future.
I then decided to grind filet and smooth those welds as they looks like crap. This took hours. But they look real nice and the file marks will make sure the little bit of putty I will use on it before primer will have plenty to bite into. The welds are quite wide so I am not worried about their strength. I then had to reweld the joint between the top of the left wheel house and the side wall of the wheel house as it appears a few of my spot welds broke. Which means I had to redo some of the skim coat on that inner wall after rewelding. All is well now. When I went to put the roll bar back on so I could get the Skim coat back the way it was (it blends right into the Micarta surround I have around the Roll Bar plates. I freaked out. The Roll bar was now well over an inch narrower at the mounting plates then it had been. Turns out welding on the underside of the Brace to Main Hoop joint caused the tubing to bend a little. I was able to just man handle it back into place. So it has a little spring to it now! But boy for a few that scared me. Tonight's project is to design a Billet Aluminum style Fire extinguisher mount to attach a pair of 2.75 Lbs 10 BC's to the Main hoop. One on each side so either the driver or passenger can reach across and acquire one while still wearing a seat belt. The ones I see for sale are like $75.00 and up ea. SO I guess I can spend some time making my own. |

I've got parts coming in for the steering on mine. Adapter plates to put disk brakes on the rear axle should be ready next week.
Upcoming work will be replacing the 3/4" bellcrank pin and bearings, new kingpin bearings and rear disc brakes. Can you tell I can't wait? JF, that's a sexy axle! |

SO did important work for the jeep today but not on the jeep.
Part of the area I an working on CHUG in is our garage/carport . The Jeep side is enclosed and is 10' x 22' the other side is more of a storage wood working area. Anyway today I got the Storage/Wood shop area all cleaned up. Which is very important since my next move is to start putting stuff from the Jeep shop into the storage area to clear out the space to become my Paint booth. I have to move a Bicycle, a Dana 41 (complete), a huge stack of drawer slides (don't ask) A few misc jeep parts mostly sheet metal and some misc junk. Tomorrow I am going to start the process of getting the main shop part of the Jeep shop cleaned up so I have some where to put the Chassis. While I do this I am hoping to add some more shelving so I can organize my parts even better. And have more room around the chassis so I can work on assembling it in the evenings after work (that time of year is real close where I have to climb back in the dump truck 60 hours a week) |

So spent the morning at our construction co annual start up meeting. SO since most of the stuff they talk about AFLAC and how to not text while driving and other silly stuff. I spent the morning drawing out my Headlight, Fog light, and Parking/Clearance light wiring diagrams along with notes on routing. I also finalized the design for my QD Rollbar/Fire Extinguisher mounts. Came home and got the parts all roughed out. Tomorrow while I continue cleaning and organizing the shop with the goal of setting up my spray booth and having room to separate the Tub from the chassis and put it back on the Rotisserie I will get the mounts finished up.

Thanks! Geez now that i really look at that chaos, it's like a hidden objects picture game! See if you can find the paper hornets nest, the echo weed whacker, the roll of gorilla duct tape, and the 1975 CB750F engine!

Hidden object puzzle. This could be a thread on its own. Love it! Cool looking shop. Here is 2 of my finds. The tape took me the longest, lol.

When I have time, need to come back for the search. It might look to some people as chaos, but what I liked about it was 3 things. 1) seemed to have a "theme" -> bringing a flat fender back to life 2) the "lighting" is so cool 3) I love the wood flooring

I took my '48 out for its first long shakedown drive, about 45 minutes. It was chilly, about 40 degrees today, but it went well with no major problems - Yay! But I'm looking forward to doing the 11" front brake upgrade for safety. I compare my bouncing speedometer to a GPS speedometer. The Jeep's speedo seems to by nearly 10 mph fast. I suppose that can be attributed to the 7.00x16 tires.

glad to here you got out for a successful ride. That amount of tire wouldn’t cause that big of a difference. Maybe wrong gear in t-case or issue with Speedo.
