If what you actually PUT IN was metric that's fine (what ever works) but if it WAS an 8-32, it was STANDARD SAE not METRIC...that was the only thing I was trying to say, sorry for the confusion.
By the way, if I was a betting man, I'd say it was probably an 8-32 thread in the tank and if a METRIC screw in the range of a M4 or M5 (an M8 is roughly the size of our 5/16" bolt)was screwed into it, it would probably work (but I wouldn't lean on that screw driver very much)
Again, sorry for the intrusion and confusion.
