Please see Questions and Answers for some topics that frequently appear on this board. As you can see, this board loads rather slowly. If you are posting something for sale, please remember to include your location since someone who might otherwise be interested might not be able to use a part or a vehicle that is too far away. Posting your location when you're selling something that needs to be hauled will save everyone's time (and reduce the number of posts on this already too-slow message board). Thanks.

: I own a 53 CJ3A which is equipped with vacuum assisted brakes which I understand was a factory option.I have tried to find information concerning this option but have not had much luck. The vacuum assist seems to be working because I can hear the vacuum when I turn off the jeep and the brake pedal gets really stiff when you pump it two or three times. What is the basic priciple on how this thing helps with braking and do you work on the brakes the same way that you would if the vacuum assist was not on the jeep.

Someone here correct me if I'm worng but I don't think Jeep offered power brakes at that point. I think they first appeared on the CJ5. Power brakes work just like standard and the only differance is in the vacume booster. Simple the vacum helps apply the brakes so less pressure is needed at the pedal by your foot. You might contact Herm the Overdrive Guy as he sells after marked reto fit units and your Jeep might have one of his. Bill
