Changing the Oil

Hello All,

I am getting ready to change the oil in my old 46'. I have the new drop in filter element and seals. After I drain the pan and replace the filter, do I simply add the oil through the dip stick channel -or- do I also need to fill the filter element? I want to be sure to do this right.
