L-134 oil filter bracket

On the L-134 oil filter mouting bracket, there is a ~1" diameter hole positioned at the front of the block. What is this hole for? I saw a photo of an engine that had a rubber grommet in this hole. Does something go through this hole? The only thing that I can think of is the oil inlet line to the oil filter canister.
Where can you buy the grommet, if there is one for this hole.
