Solex Carb

I recently replaced my Carter carb on my '47 with a Solex. I can't seem to get the idle right. It runs for about 10 or 15 seconds and then sputters out. The Solex fuel intake is larger than the Carter's. I couldn't flare the old line enough to fit, so I used rubber tube to bridge the two. I've only tried adjusting the mixture screw; I haven't adjusted the one under the float yet. Any advice? And does anyone know where I can get a fitting that would make a cleaner connection and let me get rid of the rubber tube?
