: : This engine idles great until it come up to running temp, then #3 cylinder goes dead. I have
: : changed plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and even swapped out the distributor with another one. I have
: : checked the compression 125 cold-- 100 hot it was even on all cylinders. I also checked the
: : valve adjustment and it was OK . I loosened up #3 valves thinking it must be tighting up when
: : it warms up. The valve springs seemed to be OK ( no broken ones) . This problem seemed to
: : happen all at once , It ran great before. Could the valve seat be raising up and not letting the
: : valve close? Nothing I have done has helped.

: You said you checked the compression when it was hot, I doubt the problem is a valve if the compression was ok then. If the valve was not sealing, the compression would not have been the same in #3. I think your problem is something else, maybe a warn lobe on the distributor, check the spark on #3 when the engine is hot.

It has a good spark when the the engine is hot, I compared it with the other 3
cylinders and it looks the same.I did swap out the distributor from another motor
and the problem was exactly the same. I have just about ruled out anything electrical
because I have changed everything that would be specific to #3 cylinder. I did not
tell you that this engine had less than 200 miles on a full overhual when I bought it.
However it had not ran for about 5 years. When I fired it up it had one stuck valve,It
may have been #3 ,I don't remember for sure.I soaked it with oil for about a week and
it seemed the come free. It has ran fine and I have put approx. 2500 miles on it in the
past 5 years. I wonder if this valve sticking problem has came back to haunt me.
I double checked the compression tonight and it still has 100 psi on all cylinders hot.
and after it warms up I can pull the #3 plug wire off and it does not make any
difference. Then I stuck another plug in the wire and Had good spark. I think I am
going to have to pull the head and check the valve stems .
