: : : How tight does it get?, they do tighten up a bitt but if excessive, you may have another problem.

: : : It is normal to have the seal sslightly stick out, if it didn't, you would have oil seapage. Wehn you torque the rear cap down, the rubber, I assume your useing a rubber seal, will compress.

: : : Have you tryed to torque the rcrank down
: without the seal?, if it is still tight, the rear cap may be distorted or even worse.

: : Sam, when the rear seal is out and all mains torked the crank spins nicely but when the seal is in it's tight. If I could get a tork reading off the end it'd probably take near 40lbs to budge the thing. It's tight. To turn it from the inside you have to grab the counter weights and PULL just to move it. It's like trying to turn a wheel rotor by hand when you've got the tire/wheel off. The concern I have is if this is unusual wont the seal have premature wear and leak? Or maybe others have had this quirk and not be a problem with leakage?

: : Thanx for the tip, Sam

: :
: : PS, I'm using the two piece seal that fits into the groove with the flange end facing the inside of engine (could I have the seal backwards??)

: Ryp, the rear seal definately goes in only one way. Check the manual. I recall my crank being rather tight with both the rubber and the wick seals in. I opted for the rubber seals just because of the relative ease of insertion. I also recall using alot of bearing lube/motor oil on the seal just to make sure it seated and didn't burn out upon first start. If the channel is very clean and you're pretty sure the seal has seated, I wouldn't worry too much. Mine started and ran great and hasn't leaked to this day (knock wood!!)

Rich, thanx for the good word....makes me a bit less nervous. The seal does go in only one way, I checked it again just to make sure. The surface that rubs the seal is good and smooth so it should be ok, fingers crossed. We'll give it a go!
