1948 Michigan Licence plate

I recently came across what I've been told is an original 1948 Michigan Licence plate, and in quite good condition. I would not be surprized to find out that it was touched up or repainted. I'm wondering if anyone could tell me the correct colors of this plate. It is currently silver with black lettering, but I have heard that it should be silver with navy blue letters. Thanks in advance.
