: : Two questions re: towing a Willys.

: : 1. Anything tips for towing a Willys on a U-Haul dolly (2 wheels on ground, 2 off) besides disconnecting the rear driveshaft?

: : 2. Is a front-bumper mounted tow bar a worthwhile investment? How does towing the Willys with this differ (from a driving, wear/tear, speed perspective) than with the dolly?

: : Any input would be helpful. Thanks

: Peter, if all of the mechanicals on the Willys are perfect, there is no problem with flat towing it. If you are in doubt about anything, put it on a trailer. I flat towed a 48 Willys from Memphis to Coumbus, Ohio at 70mph and had absolutely no problems, lucky, probably. I remove the rear driveshaft and put the transfer case in neutral and the hubs unlocked. Works for me, your choice. Dave.

Thanks for the input - there are no mechanical problems whatsoever. I drove it four hours to its current location, but don't feel like driving it back at 42mph, would rather throw it behind the Cherokee and do 60. Also, the trip will take me through NYC - it was fun the first time (I don't think anyone has ever seen a Willys there) but twice might be pushing my luck. One last quesiton: Without free wheeling hubs, is flat towing still an option? I imagine I'd have to disconnect the front drive shaft as well? Thanks.
