: I just purchased a 1949 Willy, CJ3A, and I have been unable to get it started. The engine tries turns over but there are no sparking coming from the spark plugs. This seems to be either a Coil, Distributor or Spark plug cable problems. So far I have already replace the 12V battery and spark plugs. We also tried taking 2 seperate 12V coils from a newer vehicles from the junk yard, and still no spark. Where do I turn next?

Check to see if you have powr to the positive side of the coil with a test light. The negative side of the coil should be connected to the distributor. If you have power,
take offf the distributor cap, witht the key on, crank the motor over and see if the points are sparking. The points should open .025, from memory but could be wrong by +.005 but will fire at that setting anyway, spark should have a blue tinge to it. If spark is not blue or no spark, adjust points and clean them with a small file if dirty. If the spark is still weak after adjusting and cleaning, get a new set and condensor.

Oh yah, I assume the rotar is there and turns?

hope this helps, Sam
