: I see the reflector listed in my parts book as item #640008 (Black ring) up to ser # 67921. after that ser # it was with a chrome ring, part # 643897

Jeff:

So you're saying that it is original equipment? I guess you are.... That's interesting because I could show you a couple of pictures where it was delivered with no reflector and as far as I can see no screw holes.

Do you know of any period photos of it from that period? or do any owners have an unrestored 2A with the original reflector intact. Is it pictured in the Parts list?

The earliest I am aware of is found in the WO film from 1945(?) showing a pre-production Cj-2 (I believe).. In this image the reflector has a painted bezel, the color of the Jeep. That probably doesn't mean much since it was an experimental pre-production Jeep. .

Very interesting. thanks for looking it up.

Anyone have a good photo reference??? or anything which shows the original 2A reflector.

I am fairly sure that the reflector commonly sold by parts houses are based on the military prototype. But I am suspicious that the early Civilian reflector had nothing to do with the miltary reflector. Anyway it would be nice to know for sure.

I am curious because I recently bought a reflector, probably from the 50s. It is an Arrow reflector with a circular bezel (not football shaped for screwing to body) and the lens is made by Stimsonite. It is very heavy duty (probably sold for truck use) and matches the early 2A taillight in lens size and glass manufacture (Stimsonite)

It should look great on the passenger side of my 3B
