your gasket should have a large round hole in center and 5 other holes. If it doesen't, along with the pump, you prob. have the wrong oil pump. This is according to the pic. in the book I have.

It's still a prob that's for sure. This is what I've done: A new guage, checked oil pressure line for clog, new drain/return line (from filter canister), new o-ring on oil pan pick-up joint, checked gasket at the pick-up, looked for missing plugs inside galley, pulled pump to check innards, checked gasket matching and ports on engine/pump matchup.

: Here's my next question....when I checked for gasket matching I'd noticed that there are 3 (!) ports on the engine block to the pump mounting pad. Now, there should be 3 ports on the pump then....nope. Only have the 2 main ports (in and out) on the pump. The gasket that I'd used didnt have the hole for the 3rd port, it just covered it over and apparently I didnt catch that on assembly. So, I've got an engine with 3 ports and a pump with 2.

: Any comments/tips, or maybe even one of those 3 port pumps laying around somewhere.....and what the heck is this pump that I have, for something newer?
