I am unsure if the condenser can be tested. In older points type ignition systems the points can be pretty well toasted if the key is left on. This is one of the reasins for the "accessory" switch setting on cars now (turn to acc to listen to the radio when the engine is not running. etc.) Point sets and condensers are cheap so you wouldn't be out but a couple of bucks to replace them and see if your problem is cured.
